The total catch for the Novar beats in the 2011 season was 339 salmon & grilse, resulting in a 5-year average up to an including 2011 of 424. The grilse generally range in weight from 3 to 6½ lbs, and the salmon from 7 to 15 lbs.

Catch & Release

A salmon conservation policy was introduced as a voluntary code in 2005. In 2006 the conservation policy was incorporated into the Novar Fishings Regulations, resulting in a significant improvement in return rates on the Novar beats. The return rate has increased steadily since and in 2011 reached 73.5%.
